We welcome Ishan Gunarathna to Align!

Yet another star has joined Align! It is Ishan Gunarathna we have the pleasure of welcoming! See below for his introduction of himself.

How it all started

15 years ago, I stepped into the world of IFS by joining IFS Sri Lanka as a Software Engineer. It was my first job leaving the University as a fresh graduate, and here I am still exploring the IFS eco-system with different roles and perspectives.

As a fresh Software Engineer, I was lucky enough to work with some of the brilliant minds in the Retail extension development team, where we build solutions to expand the capabilities of standard IFS Applications to address the specific needs of the customers operating in the Retail domain.

This is where I learnt to design sustainable solutions where we shared a ”freedom with responsibility” mindset. I had the freedom to explore new technologies, concepts and experiment with new strategies while working on customer solutions, which made me the tech enthusiast I am today.

From there onwards I wore multiple hats during my career at IFS Consulting as a Lead Engineer, Queue Manager, Tech Lead, Mentor, Service Owner and eventually a Senior Manager. I enjoyed the management aspect equally as the technical aspect, where the satisfaction you get after a successful go live of project as a tech lead, was equally rewarding for me, as it was seeing how my team members elevated overall over my years as a manager.

My passion was always to elevate individuals to their potential, which made us eventually deliver great services to our customers as a team. I was lucky enough to have some of the best leaders in the company guiding me throughout and it was never a boring journey, especially working with the Nordic counterparts.

Beyond the working desk…

Well, being a father of a 2.5 year old daughter, you can’t find much free time outside working hours. She defines how I spend those. It could be coloring Dinos with her in the activity books or cleaning the walls where she ended up drawing Dinos. You never know what it will be and that’s the exciting bit about spending time with an active kid.

Whenever I get the chance, I love to drive through scenic routes enjoying some good music, or getting engaged in home projects (possibly assisted by my daughter…).

Becoming an Aligner in the Nordics…

I am a person who have always grabbed the opportunities thrown at me rather than a person who chased for them and in this instance, we decided to move to Denmark as my wife got an opportunity to work there as a doctor.

When looking for opportunities my aim was to find a place where I am valued for “who I am” and Align was a perfect match in that perspective. Starting from the first discussion itself, I was truly inspired by Algin’s people first culture and the humble, yet world class consultants they had managed to secure within their team.

It was not a difficult choice and here I am, being a part of Align in Sweden, helping Align’s customers with their implementations and daily businesses. It’s time to unlearn some things and re-learn new domains. Looking forward to exploring the world of IFS even further from a different perspective – this time as a true Aligner!

Vi välkomnar Clara Backgården till Align!

Vi är väldigt glada att välkomna affärskonsulten Clara Backgården till oss på Align! En tjej med kunskap om bland annat IFS Cloud och inköpsprocesser. Hon får saker att hända. Se nedan hennes introduktion av sig själv – välkommen Clara!

De senaste sex åren har jag arbetat i flera olika roller inom inköpsorganisationen på ett fjärrvärmebolag (Stockholm Exergi). Där har jag dels jobbat med operativt inköp och kunnat vara nära drift- och underhållsorganisationen och dels i rollen som taktisk inköpare med att driva större upphandlingar.

Företaget implementerade IFS Cloud under denna period och en tid efter go-live började jag arbeta som processledare inom Purchase-to-pay processen, med IFS Cloud som huvudverktyg. Utöver det vanliga processarbetet ägnade jag majoriteten av min tid åt IFS Cloud med avhjälpande åtgärder och stötta flera olika delar av företaget. Jag har även varit delaktig i genomförandet av modifieringar och konfigureringar i IFS för att underlätta processen och flödet från det att inköpsbehovet uppstår tills det att leverantören har fått betalt.

I verksamheten tycker jag att det är viktigt att släcka de bränder som uppstår, men att det är desto viktigare att säkerställa att samma brand inte uppstår igen. Således är det a och o att skaffa kunskap och förståelse för varför branden uppstod från början. Jag älskar att genomföra förändring och bedriva utveckling som leder till smartare och mer effektiva lösningar och hanteringar. Det går i hand med mitt motto att ”det ska vara lätt att göra rätt”, med slutanvändaren i huvudfokus.

På fritiden har jag fullt upp med att packa ryggsäckar, hämta och lämna på aktiviteter och ha läxläsning med mina två flickor som jag har ihop med min sambo. När tid finns över till annat spenderar jag den gärna utomhus, exempelvis med att som bilden eventuellt antyder försöka hålla trädgården respektabel för både grannar och vänner. Sommar och skollov spenderar vi gärna i Skåne där morfar försöker lära flickorna skånska med ganska svagt resultat…

Jag är en engagerad och lösningsorienterad person som tycker om att arbeta mot gemensamt uppsatta mål för att nå bästa resultat. Med den grundinställningen ser jag fram emot att tillsammans med mina nya härliga kollegor på Align möta framtida kunder för att hitta den bästa lösningen för just dem!

Welcome to Align, Maneesha Rajapaksha!

Please read below to get to know our latest addition Maneesha, a young and talented software developer situated in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

I began my career at IFS Sri Lanka, starting as a Software Engineering Trainee in November 2020 while pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Software Engineering from Curtin University, Australia.

 Having finished the trainee program I worked as Software Engineer at IFS Sri Lanka, a role I held for 3+ years. During this period, I was part of developing and maintaining IFS’ products. I was responsible to do the so-called CRIMs (Configurations, Reports, Integrations and Modifications) in the versions of IFS Cloud and IFS APPS10. I managed issues in Life Cycle Support (LCS) applications and handled incidents in those. Additionally, I conducted training programs for new joiners, while continually updating my technical knowledge, investigating new technologies to enhance software efficiency.

 In November 2023, I joined Bitzify as a part-time Software Engineer, working remotely from Sweden for 6 months. My focus remained on IFS ERP. My role at Bitzify involved software development of CRIMs, integrating existing software products, and supporting and maintaining software solutions for client organizations. During my soon to be four years working with IFS’ ERP systems I have experienced a number of clients, projects and solutions, doing my outmost to help the customer’s getting the most out of their investment.

 I see myself as a problem-solving, analytical person with a strong ability to multitask. On that note, I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Software Engineering at Mälardalen’s University here in Sweden, further expanding my knowledge and skills. Recently, I collaborated with three other students on a project for Alstom in Västerås to develop a web application. My passion for software engineering and commitment to excellence continue to drive me forward, which is also what lead me to Align…

 Right before summer I joined Align in Sweden. I got the opportunity to immediately enter into an ongoing activity at one of Align’s Swedish IFS Cloud customers, and it feels great to be able to contribute to their success. So far I must say I really enjoy it at Align; the skilled people but mainly their lack of prestige. I simply like my nice colleagues and the atmosphere here. Looking forward to continued growth personally, but also for Align and for our customers.

 Finally, on a more personal note: I live in Eskilstuna together with my husband. I fancy chocolate a lot. Ending with a quote that I like, almost as much as the mentioned chocolate:

Johan Gustavsson ny på Align!

Nu var det ett tag sedan vi senast presenterade en ny Aligner i Sverige. Det kommer vi att effektivt råda bot på nu runt sommaren med start idag när vi introducerar er för ingen mindre än Johan Gustavsson. Ta del av hans berättelse nedan, men först säger vi: Hjärtligt välkommen till oss på Align!

Vem är Johan? Här kommer hans egna beskrivning.

För ca 24 år sedan tog jag mina första stapplande steg in i IFS-världen. Den startade i Linköping (Mjärdevi) på plan 3 i Tennishallen på avdelningen IFS R&D Maintenance. Det blev tre år där, innan jag gick ner till husets bottenvåning och dåvarande bolaget @IFS. I det företaget har jag sedan varit kvar. Bolaget har haft många namn på vägen, men det har alltid handlat om att säkerställa att kunders IFS-miljöer fungerat. Under åren har jag haft många olika roller och jobbat med olika kunder; det har varit otroligt intressant att se på alla typer av lösningar och verksamheter.

Privat håller jag mig i Linköping där jag bor med min sambo och två barn. Jag har dock mitt ursprung i Dalarna och åker gärna dit för att få lite lugn och ro. Det gör även underverk för mitt dalmål som trots många år i exil fortfarande finns kvar.

Fritiden har varit en gråzon för mig då jag alltid sagt att jobbet är en livsstil. Att ansvara för extremt driftkritiska system under dygnets alla timmar skapar en speciell situation i livet, något  jag vant mig vid. Det har gjort att när fritiden finns blir det mycket familjeliv och alla möjliga typer av aktiviteter som kan verka roligt. Ett tydligt intresse jag har är dock vin, främst röda viner av typen Amarone. I mitt arbete är jag väldigt ombytlig. Det krävs många olika sidor i de roller jag haft och man måste plocka fram rätt sida för rätt situation. Ena stunden sitter man och diskuterar IT-strategier och vart marknaden är på väg, senare under samma dag kanske man sitter i krishantering då en kunds affärssystem står still. I grund och botten är jag dock en tänkande person som hela tiden försöker förstå. Min ambition har alltid varit att försöka förstå helheten inom en IFS-installation, allt från hårdvara till verksamhet och utifrån det kunna säkerställa att systemet är igång.

Nu ska det verkligen bli spännande att jobba på Align och träffa på ännu fler kunder och få möjligheten att dela med mig av mina erfarenheter i deras väg framåt.

Early September, we at Align had the great pleasure of welcoming yet a new great and talented person to our team. This time, a senior developer with vast and indeed relevant experience. Methshika Abeysinghe. Please read his engaging introduction of himself below:

Hello, my good name is Methshika, and unsurprisingly, a lover of the game of Cricket from the tropical island of Sri Lanka.
It is quite natural for me to peek into cricinfo.com when Sri Lanka is playing a game and I’m not in front of the TV!
I would always enjoy being with my family, especially with my two little sons, and of course, enjoying far too long family trips to explore things, and
I would always love to visit closeby nice beach where I’m living whenever there is time to escape from the busy life.

Starting from IFS R&D and for many years

I started my career at IFS R&D center in Colombo in 2011, as a fresh graduate from the University of Colombo after I got inspired by what IFS is doing while being an intern during my time as an undergraduate. Since then I have been working on shaping up the IFS Supply Chain core product and offerings as well as supporting the customers, throughout many years while taking part in many core releases of IFS Applications.

Working closer to IFS customer

In early 2020, I had the opportunity to work exclusively for one of Swedish largest electronics retailers called NetOnNet.
It was a great opportunity to be part of their in-house ERP team while directly involved with their business and adding value through the ERP by gaining more hands-on in how the IFS Application is adopted in real day-to-day extensive business. Then I had the chance to explore the IFS Cloud when IFS was having its greatest application landscape transition while working with IFS partners and got the opportunity to work with some IFS Cloud transition of some customers by working closely with the IFS consulting team collaboratively as well.

Become an Aligner and moving to the land of vikings!

I got to know about Align while working collaboratively with the Align colleagues. I was inspired by what they do by experience and then I got this opportunity to become a part of their wonderful customer-centric and people-oriented culture. This comes with the big move into the land of Sweden with my family which would be a nice and exciting experience to embrace a new culture, language and weather.

Having said that, looking forward to this new challenge to create value for global customers while embracing a super-loving working culture!

Early March, we at Align had the great pleasure of welcoming yet another star to our team. This time, a rising such, a young talent, with vast and indeed relevant experience still. Afridi Meedin. Please read his engaging introduction of himself below:

”Hey everyone, I’ll try my best to keep it short and sweet.

I go by Afridi! Mad Chelsea FC fan – Ever since I just randomly woke up one night to watch the UEFA Champions League final in 2012. Loves the likes of Remote-Control Cars, and LEGO. When the opportunity arises or my friends/family/colleagues just randomly push me to the spotlight, I turn into (or maybe I think I turn into) singing and playing the guitar like Ed Sheeran.

During my time 4-year tenure at IFS …

I started my career straight out of college at IFS as a Software Engineer in 2019. Worked in many areas of the product, with different customers with very different complexities and backgrounds. Highlight – Was part of an Oil & Gas extension (Synchronization Framework) that allowed communication between two different versions of IFS Applications. It’s called “Patch Level Engine (PLE)”.

Then came IFS Cloud in the middle of 2020! The product was fast-moving and in parallel, I was given the privilege to lead and perform a pre-study on how it will impact the Global Consulting Delivery domain. Joining hands with IFS experts from all around the world, the pre-study was finally put to the test for pioneer customers along with the 21R1 EA Release.

It was a success! My colleagues named me Mr. IFS Cloud.

This gave me the opportunity to do more within the Global Consulting Delivery domain. Such as leading large-scale customers on implementation/upgrade projects, training/onboarding IFS Internal, Partners, and Customers designing future methods and processes, Part of the core mentoring (Onboarding new IFSers), and Technical Lead panel with the vision of bringing out great leaders.

As you might guess, I see my career development at IFS as simply fantastic. I got to experience and learn a lot. Since I am somewhat impatient though, I want that development to continue at high pace. I started thinking more about consulting, combined with living abroad. Experiencing a new culture, together with my wife. When looking around for opportunities, I contacted Align, whom I met in a project a year ago, and the rest is history. Now, I am very excited to experience the cold winters of the North…

My move to Align and what I aim to do…

Talking of Align, they are best known for putting in their World Class Service even when it comes to the tiniest of assignments. Most importantly the people-put-first culture! Don’t even get me started – The list keeps on going!

With the above being said, I look forward to diving into this journey headfirst, ready to learn and grow.”

Välkommen till Align: Göran Hellström!

Häromdagen, när vi presenterade Martin Lindstrand, antydde vi att ännu en välmeriterad herre började hos oss på samma datum. Den vi åsyftade är alltså Göran Hellström!

Vem är då detta? När vi bad Göran komma med några nyckelord inför presentationen tog han frågan på största allvar och googlade genast fram sina personlighetstyper enligt några standardbeskrivningar. Själva standarden kan vi möjligen lämna därhän, men här kommer hans egenhändigt sammanställda huvudingredienser, snyggt och prydligt strukturerade.

Vi som känner Göran, och kanske inte heller är fullt lika kritiskt lagda i våra personlighetsdrag, betonar gärna att han är en ytterst kompetent systemutvecklare, en verkligt senior sådan, som därtill har diger kunskap kring många av IFS-applikationens flöden. Således angränsar han till att dessutom vara en affärskonsult. Det är en riktig lagspelare vi talar om, en herre som verkligen triggas av att få ihop lösningar tillsammans med kollegor; lösningar som förbättrar kundens vardag.

Vår nye kollega har jobbat med många av oss Aligners förut. Unisont konkluderar vi att han helt enkelt är en härlig människa, med en stor dos av humor, stundtals åt det något torrare hållet😊 Han håller till utanför Linköping, närmare bestämt i Ljungsbro. Göran nämner som väntat musiken som hobby, men vi vill även lyfta fram hans känsla för att renovera diverse tekniska prylar, gärna smått udda attiraljer med några år på nacken.

Emellertid är han inte bara populär hos vänner och kollegor. Kunderna Suzuki Garphyttan och Rosti var tidigt ute och säkrade hans tjänster i anslutning till Görans start hos oss, vilket vi på Align är stolta och tacksamma för. Ännu någon kund är på väg att bli en del av hans nya vardag. Spännande!

I Görans karriär ligger arbete i och runt affärssystemet IFS från och med 1994. När han beskriver alla sina fantastiska år i applikationens och kodens värld gör han det stundom med epitetet ”en Thore Skogman-karriär”😊 Vill du veta mer om vad han eventuellt menar med det? Ja, då når du honom alltså numera hos oss på Align! Här ser han fram emot ”att jobba väldigt nära såväl kund som riktigt goda kollegor – att vara del av något väldigt kompetent, ödmjukt och familjärt”.

Nr 8 på Align i Sverige: Maria Brobäck

Jag har tagit en smått slingrande väg mot att slutligen jobba heltid med IFS affärssystem. Vägen startade som kemitekniker på ett pappersbruk. Det blev därefter en liten avstickare till HR med huvudfokus på kompetensutveckling, och sedan vidare in till underhållsområdet där jag på allvar stötte på IFS-applikationen. Under några år var jag chef för underhållsplanerare innan jag gick vidare till att jobba heltid med affärssystemet centralt på Holmen, det stora svenska skogsbolaget som under lång tid har använt IFS Applications.

För två och ett halvt år sedan tog jag steget att bli affärskonsult på Evry, som sedermera blev Tietoevry. Med min verksamhetserfarenhet som bas blev det självklart att jag inriktade mig på underhåll och HR, men jag jobbade även med dokumenthantering samt roller och behörigheter. Allt i både nyimplementation, uppgradering och daglig förvaltning. Som person är jag nyfiken och modig om jag får säga det själv, så jag tar gärna ut svängarna och testar nya områden. Att få stötta kunden i att utveckla sina processer och systemstöd är det allra roligaste med att vara konsult. Utmanande och spännande också att se olikheter, och likheter, mellan kunder såväl som branscher.

Fritiden tar hunden, en Husky, och det relativt nyinköpta gamla huset och dess trädgård hand om… Vi fixar och donar kontinuerligt både inne och ute. Skönt då att ha en Husky så att jag regelbundet måste bryta av renoveringen och bara ”vara” i skog och mark. Trädgårdsarbete är förresten ett stort intresse som jag haft så länge jag kan minnas. Det skulle jag vilja ägna ännu mer tid åt. I huset bor också sambo, en vuxen son och tre katter, samt äldste sonens lilla hund som visst verkar bli kvar hos oss.

Jag ser nu verkligen fram emot att jobba i det lilla bolaget där det är nära mellan behov och beslut, vilket även bidrar till att jag kan ägna tid åt det jag gillar mest: att göra det bästa för kunden.

Med detta tar vi alltså ännu en senior rådgivare, med diger erfarenhet som anställd på kundsidan, ombord på Align. Vi ser verkligen fram emot att ta del av Marias kunskap, glädje och nyfikenhet. Hennes första uppdrag är hon redan igång i. Som testledare. Spännande!

Today, Align Consulting AB’s seventh employee Damith Jinasena, is finishing his fifth day as an “Aligner”.

I started my career as a developer at IFS in 2008 where I worked in IFS Scandinavia support and global support for 9 years. During that time I mostly worked with IFS framework, middleware server, mobile, and FSM solutions. In 2017 I left IFS and started doing more consulting centric work and helped with IFS implementations and upgrades, integrations, customizations, and configurations.

At work, I am eager to find smart and sustainable solutions for challenging problems. Curiosity and passion for IFS are probably my main drivers. Actually, I also try to help with IFS related problems during work and outside work as well trough IFS Community forum, were I have learned that I enjoy sharing my thoughts and knowledge through blogging.”

His colleagues loves working with him, since he is extremely collaborative, humble yet clear and precise. And of course, knowledgeable indeed.

Damith lives with his wife and two daughters in Linköping. He misses the great variety of excellent local curries from back home in Sri Lanka, as well as the fresh and ripe mangos. In his spare time Damith likes cycling in the countryside and spend time with kids and family. And, not surprisingly, he also likes to build DIY gadgets and Arduino and RaspberryPi are his kind of toys.

I look forward to taking the next step in my career here at Align, but mainly, to work with nice customers and great people. During my first week I have had the pleasure of meeting 14(!) of my new colleagues. Most of the eight Swedish people I knew from before, but the six Norwegian “mentors” I met were new to me. They all seemed fantastic. Since a couple of months I take Swedish lessons, now I figure Norwegian is next?
